2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games

With each Olympic games, we are seeing more and more coverage online. This year, with the summer games in Beijing beginning August 8th, in addition to the usual news coverage on pages such as ESPN Olympic Central, network NBC is distributing content via broadcast TV, cable and satellite channels, as well as online videos and live streaming.

Check out:
NBC Olympics Home | NBC Olympic Video | NBC TV & Online Listings

By entering your zip code and the television channel you watch at the "TV & Online Listings" link you can get schedules in your time zone for both television and online broadcasts. Clicking the event on the schedule should take you to the video for past or live events or to a more detailed listing for future events. (Note: If you enter "antenna" rather than your local Cable provider, you will not get access to some of the "rewind" videos available online of past events.)

Mac users may have to install the "Microsoft Silverlight" plug-in in order to view the NBC videos.

The 4.5 hours of coverage of the Opening Ceremonies are scheduled to air on NBC during primetime Friday August 8, approximately 12 hours after the live event in Beijing. Because of the tape delay on the Ceremonies, live streaming online of some events will begin that same evening - so you can watch the Ceremonies on your TV, and some events live on your Computer (Equestrian Eventing, Badminton, Basketball, Fencing, Handball, Shooting, and Weightlifting).

Note that Beijing is on "China Standard Time" or CST (UTC + 8) and is 12 hours ahead of Eastern Time or 15 hours ahead of Pacific Time in the U.S. The NBC TV & Online Listings are given in your local time zone according to the zip code entered, so don't worry about confusing CST China Standard Time with CT Central Time in the U.S.

You Tube Screening Room Update

The YouTube Screening Room sponsored a lounge at the LA Film Festival June 25, 2008. Clips from the lounge include discussion of topics such as 'music rights for film in the digital age' and live music performances by Matt Hires, The Willowz, Scissors for Lefty, and Honey Honey. The channel features four short films every other Friday.

All past featured films as well as the lounge clips are available now in the archive at the bottom of the page at http://youtube.com/ytscreeningroom. The latest shorts include an animated story about the life of Ryan Larkin (famous animator in the 60's).

Also, of interest to filmmakers is this clip from Moby with description:

"The innovative club musician Moby played punk rock and speed metal before he gained fame in the rave scene with the 1991 dance single "Go." Throughout the past fifteen years, Moby remixed tracks, scored movies, produced other artists and made his own recordings. His latest project, Moby Gratis, is geared towards providing license-free music to filmmakers. http://www.mobygratis.com"
